A lot of people desire to be their own boss. One way to do that is through a franchise. In this article we will discuss the pros and cons of investing in a franchise opportunity, to help you determine whether or not franchise opportunities are for you. After reading this article, you should walk away with a better understanding of how franchise opportunities apply to your situation.

If you’re going to be successful running a business, you must be good at being self-employed. Typically people that thrive on being their own boss are those who are willing to take the initiative, are not afraid of failure or risk, and are willing to put in the necessary amount of time to get their efforts off the ground and running. They do not get bogged down by details, and are able to see the big picture. Does this sound like you? If so, you’re the perfect candidate for being self-employed.

Now the choice is whether or not to create your own business from scratch, or to take your money and invest in a franchise opportunity. The main difference between a business and franchise opportunity is your rights and what you can do in the business. If you want create your own business, you have to create your own business model system, and brand awareness in the marketplace. But you also get to dictate who you buy supplies from, what hours you operate in, where you can locate at and how you can advertise.

Compare that to a franchise. While you don’t have as much flexibility or creative input, you do get a workable, proven business model, oftentimes you enjoy brand identity awareness in the marketplace, and you can spend more of your efforts in making sure things are running smoothly, and working on the day-to-day business affairs. Franchises present the best opportunities to generate passive income without your day-to-day presence at the business.

Are you ready to be an entrepreneur? It takes a lot of self-determination and want to really work for yourself. I’d say at least 75% of people in business today are not cut out to be entrepreneurs. If you have that burning desire to own a franchise or your own business, then a franchise could be what you have been looking for. Take time to sit down to assess and plan your skills, finances, and goals to see if you are ready to take the leap to self-employment. Always consult a financial planner and attorney before making any decision that will impact your financial future for a long time.

So what it all comes down to is knowing what you want out of the business, and knowing what skills are required to run a business successfully. Also, it involves knowing how to analyze franchise opportunities to find the winner that suit your personality best. If you can do that, and follow the advice given above as it relates to franchises, maybe franchise opportunity is the perfect thing for you.

Your clients are your best advertisements. You may also want to put fliers in mattress and furniture stores. Always ask first, but they may refer people to your mattress cleaning business.Subscribe to newsletters and periodicals to keep up on the industry trends. This way you will stay ahead of any competition. Also, check out books and web sites. Always know what is going on in your industry. If you already have a cleaning service, you may want to consider adding this to the services you already provide.
Well you are on the right track with your franchise. You have chosen which franchise you are going to open, you have selected a place for your franchise to open, and you have gotten all the financing in order for your franchise. You are about to open, but you need to find employees to work at your new franchise first! You know that you want good employees to work for you, but you don’t know exactly how to select them. Well read on to find out about selecting employees for your new franchise!

Get people interested in working for you at your franchise by holding an open interview time session. This way people can walk in and be interviewed that day. Also if you have the opportunity to be a part of a career fair, this can boost your choices for new employees.

First of all take your time with this process and start early than you think you should! If you are rushed you will not usually pick the best person to fit your needs and wants for your future employee. Think of the things that you feel are important to you and the success of your future franchise business. Chances are you will look for someone with a pleasant personality with some skills that are relevant to the job you need them for.

Appearance says a lot! If a potential employee shows up to their interview looking like they just rolled out of bed, chances are they will show up worse than that for work each day. You would not want that kind of image for your franchise. Look for someone who has dressed respectfully and professionally.

Timing is critical. If the person is late for their interview, what makes you think that they will come to work on time? Your time is valuable; don’t waste it on someone who doesn’t care.

Ask the potential employee situational questions to see how they respond. Since you will want to provide the best customer service, these types of questions are suggested. You may ask “what would you do calm down an upset customer?” or other similar questions to gage their customer service skills.

Make sure that the person is qualified for the job that you are asking them to do. If they have never had experience handling money, then appointing them as the book keeper is not the best choice. If you have an unqualified person it will show to your customers and chances are you will lose business.

Your instincts are normally on the money. If you get a bad feeling or weird vibe from someone then nicely move on to the next candidate! Don’t waste your time and money with something you know is not going to work out.

Lastly, take advantage of a background checking service. This can be a huge determining factor for employment. Many companies will not hire a person with a criminal record. Keep in mind that you want honest employees who will exceed your customer’s expectations!

Start looking for new employees for your franchise today!

In a recent interview, Zoup!’s Director of Development & Real Estate, Richard Zimmer, discussed the company’s unique franchise opportunity and explained how its thorough Franchise Development Process – including phone calls, webinars and in-person meetings – educates prospects and helps the company identify highly qualified candidates.

Q. What is unique about your franchise that results in satisfied, profitable franchisees?

A. Zoup! Fresh Soup Company – the country’s leading Fast-Casual soup restaurant concept – has been defining the category with its award-winning soups, salads and sandwiches, served in a casual, comfortable setting. Each Zoup! location offers 12 hand-crafted soup varieties each day, from its collection of hundreds of proprietary recipes.

Part of what makes the concept unique is a system that allows franchisees to focus on the “front of house” – customer service, store appearance and marketing. Simplified menu items require no cooking and little preparation.

At the same time, Zoup!’s offerings appeal to today’s health-conscious, food-savvy customers who are looking for healthy alternatives to typical fast-food fare.

Q. How would you describe your ideal franchise candidate?

A. The ideal Zoup! franchisee is a successful, motivated business manager who works well with systems and processes. An outgoing personality and passion for Zoup!’s culture and products also are key.

Q. Is a Zoup! franchise candidate required to have restaurant experience?

A. No restaurant experience is required. We offer an extensive, three-week training program to teach franchisees everything they need to know to run a successful Zoup! store.

Q. How does Zoup!’s Franchise Qualification Process work, and how do prospective franchisees begin?

A. The first thing a prospective franchisee should do is establish his or her personal and financial goals. From that point on, our leadership team leads candidates through our Franchise Qualification Process:

Candidate participates in a “Founders” webinar that explains the company’s history, foundation and culture.
Candidate completes a request for consideration that includes geographic preference, business background information, desired timeline and financial position.
Candidate attends two webinars, one that covers marketing and training, and one that deals with real estate and build-out.
Candidate receives the Franchise Disclosure Document (FDD) to review and schedules a time to review it with a Zoup! representative.
Candidate makes validation calls to current and former franchisees.
A Zoup! representative reviews the business plan with the candidate.
Candidate visits headquarters for “Discovery Day.”
Approval Committee discusses candidate’s qualifications.
Candidate signs Franchise Agreement.

          ]]>

Q. Why is it necessary to have such an extensive qualification process?

A. We feel that it is extremely important that we get to know a candidate – and that they get to know us – before we award them a franchise. We do our best to provide as much detail as possible so candidates can make an informed decision. At the same time, we have “systemized” the process to help us see if a candidate can follow a system, a skill that will be critical to his or her ultimate success.

Q. How should a candidate properly prepare for their conversations with you?

A. We recommend that the candidate review his or her personal goals with close family members. The candidate also should have a clear understanding of his or her financial resources and needs.

Throughout the process, the candidate should carefully review the documents we provide and, at the appropriate time, be sure to make validation calls to current franchisees. The candidate should wait to make a decision until after he or she has received, reviewed and processed all the information, and has had all questions answered.

Q. How often do you turn down a candidate? What are the reasons?

A. During the initial phone call, we find that more than half of the candidates are not a good fit. The most common reasons are failure to meet financial requirements, interest in a territory that is either unavailable or inappropriate and personal goals that are not compatible with the business model.

Of those who continue, most make it through the whole process. As a candidate approaches the “Discovery Day” step, the Zoup! franchise development team discusses candidates that may not be a good fit. If we are unsure about a candidate, we extend the invitation to “Discovery Day” so we can meet them. This clarifies whether our initial impressions are right or wrong.

Still, we turn down about 10 percent of candidates after “Discovery Day” because they are not a good fit.

Q. Describe the benefits you and your franchisees have experienced from your qualification process.

A. We recognize that Zoup! needs great people to help it grow. Our process is set up to create a consistent, open and honest flow of information so that our leadership team and candidates can feel completely comfortable with their decisions to work together.

The more I look into the Franchise Industry, the more it is apparent that most Information is geared around selling franchises. The Business Franchise is exactly that – big business.

If you do a search on Google on ‘franchise’ or ‘franchise information’ then you are likely to be presented with thousands of pages of franchise advertisers, franchise consultants, franchise marketplace websites and possible a franchise association.

I have been seriously researching the industry for a number of years now and the number of good information sources I have found are few and far between. There are a number of good books on Franchising on amazon and I strongly suggest that if you are seriously examining buying a franchise then you read as many as you can. You can never do enough research.

I have just come off the back of two days solid of research on google on franchises and I have yet to find any information sites that are not in some way ‘sponsored’ or funded by franchises or consultants.

          ]]>

Why is this? Do you know any?

The franchise Industry is big business and the opportunities to get impartial, informative advice and information are few and far between.

If you are considering buying a franchise then the biggest piece of advice I can offer is to consider the motivation of any article, web site and ‘guru’ that you come across. Do your due diligence and ask what their motivation is for providing that information.

To begin that process, let me give my honest answer:

I am writing a blog to give impartial advice from some one who has been a franchisee. I have seen the good and the bad of the franchise industry and have lost a lot of money.

I have spent the last three years, and more, fully researching the franchise industry and have been struck by the lack of impartial advice and information. I have a small vested interest as I am writing a manual on my experiences and how you can avoid them and will be launching it soon. Apart from that, however, I have no other interest in providing you information other than making sure you make the right decision for the rest of your future.

Learning about the franchise industry from honest people can give you every chance of success when researching and buying a franchise. Using the Internet to it’s full potential as a tool for your research is a must and at the end of the day with the right knowledge in hand you can come away with a fantastic business for life which can support your and your family in the way that you want to live. Without doing the proper research it is likely you will buy into the wrong type of franchise for you or one which may well collapse in the near future, leaving a gaping hole in your pocket and with little no no resources left to set up fresh.

To your future business success.

Franchising is the best thing way that you can start off a business. This is especially true for people who do not have the know how yet about business but would already want to have their own.

With franchising, everything is already provided for you– the system, the materials, the products, the training for the people. Everything is already done for you. All you have to do is put up the capital and manage the business. Some franchises even find the spot for you and even help you find the right people that will serve as your manpower.

Although there are many kinds of franchises, the most popular are in the food business. There are also some that are in the services like key duplicating, repair shops, salons. There are actually a lot of things that you can franchise. In fact, you may even propose the start of a franchise to an owner as this is one way of expanding the business without shelling out the money.

If you are keen to make money now, below are some tips that can help you in choosing the right kind of franchise for you. Read on and be on your way to financial freedom.

The product is everything

This is one of the most crucial things that you have to consider when looking for a potential franchise. Your product should be really good. If it is food, make sure that you yourself love the food that you are going to sell. Believing in the product that you are selling is the initial step in any business. After all, how will you sell it if you do not believe in it?

Another thing that you should consider in choosing the product is the know how to do it. This is especially true if you are considering franchise that involves food. You first need to know how to prepare the food and how to cook it before you decide to franchise.

It’s in the location

The next factor to consider is the location of the franchise that you are going to put up. initially look for potential spots where you can put up your business franchise. After which, do some market research on the place. The franchise will be able to help you with it as they provide these kinds of assistance to their franchisees.

There are also franchises that suggest locations that are already open. Look at these locations and also consider how accessible the place will be from your own home. Remember, even if it is just a franchise, you still have to do the managing yourself.

Power in the People

Even if you have a good product and you have a good location, if your crew or the people that you hire are not properly trained or just plain not good enough, the business can still fail. The people can actually make or break the business.

It is important to choose people that you like and those that you can trust. This is especially true if you do not have the time to do full-time management. This means that you need to have someone that you can really trust to oversee the business while you are doing something else.

Properly training your people is another crucial thing. They need to be able to show the customers that they know what they are doing. This is important if you want to establish credibility.

Even in today’s troubled economy there are numerous ways to invest to secure your family’s future. One way this is being done is by buying into a franchise business. Becoming a franchisee can be a great way to see a return on money invested but it’s never a sure thing. There are many aspects to the franchise industry that can be misleading to a potential franchisee. Research data can be skewed, risks to the franchisee can be downplayed and potential profit figures may be inflated to make buying in seem like a great deal. Oftentimes, franchisors aren’t doing anything except furthering a potential franchisee’s ignorance of what is franchise fact and what is fiction. A potential franchisee is left to sort the myths from the truths on their own.

Myth #1: The most expensive franchise opportunities will bring the most profit!

Wrong! Oftentimes, it’s the complete opposite. The more cash you have to sink in the beginning, the longer it takes for you to turn a profit. Franchisors are free to set the prices for their initial franchise fees and are not indicative of a healthy business chain. You will need to do your own research on market conditions, location and the efficiency of the business model the franchise organization has in place.

Myth #2: The bigger the franchise, the more likely you are to succeed!

Do not be fooled! While this myth may in fact be true in some instances, most of the time it is false. Buying into a large franchise chain has its advantages, such as larger scale advertising, sophisticated business plans, more capital to support the brand and group discounts for business equipment that will be needed. However, the group discounts are often negated by higher royalty fees. Large franchises also offer little to no flexibility when it comes to setting store hours, how many employees you need to hire, products you must carry, suppliers you must use and pricing for your services.

Myth #3: I will make lots of money, and it will be so easy!

This myth is really a two headed beast. You may make lots of money but the facts are that most people do not get rich. It is also not an easy task. Buying into a franchise may be slightly easier that starting a business from scratch but it’s still starting a business! You can expect to work long hours, 12-15 per business day and you can expect to wait a year or more to see any returns on your investment. One way to ease the stress of the process is to get help. Experienced professional franchise lawyers and accountants can help you navigate the dangerous traps that many franchisees fall into, such as very one- sided contracts with franchisors. Hiring a franchise lawyer can save time, stress and increase your chance of success.

There are many myths and half truths that people hear and tell in the franchise industry. As a potential franchisee you need to do a careful franchise evaluation. Getting educated, having a franchise lawyer at your service and having realistic expectations are a must to be successful.

It is estimated that there is over 3,500 franchise opportunities available just in the United States and in Canada today. Therefore, finding the best franchise opportunity for you online can be a demanding task. Franchising is said to be one of the most effective ways at getting into business but it appears to be difficult for some as they may say they do not know how to start looking. Where should you stat looking?Opportunities for franchise can be found all over the internet but before you start you need to have a plan of action. Before beginning you need to sit down and decided which industry would suit your needs and what industry can you see yourself belonging to. Choosing the industry to be in should suit the qualifications of previous work you may have been involved in. Are you a cook who has dreamed of opening a restaurant all your life? There are valid questions you need to ask yourself before you start searching. When deciding which path to take you need to be honest to yourself as choosing the industry is the most important if you wish to proceed further.

Now, when you have found the perfect franchise to suit your needs it is extremely important to remember five particular factors. Firstly, total investment required followed by franchise fee and management support. Secondly, you need to consider the number of currently franchised units and the amount of years in business. These five fundamental categories are ultimate ways into finding out the efficiency of how accurately a particular franchise is running.

Be careful not to look at a franchise out of your league. If you only have x amount to spend then make sure the initial capital required is within that limit. Overall it is better to look at lower costing franchises keeping some pocket money to add to your advertising funds.

Is this franchise the appropriate fit for you? Before signing any franchise agreement one may need to recognise if this franchises express who there are and matches their personality. You do not want to move into an industry you have no interest in. if the franchise does suit your charisma then be prepared to put in the work to succeed. Beginning stages of a franchise are not easy and can consist of full days of solid work, from at least 40 hours a week. So if you are not ready for the commitment then this franchise is not for you.

Franchise opportunities are not easy to find straight away. So do not go online thinking you will find one that day as it can take months or even years before you find the perfect franchise that you want to put your life into. You should evaluate every aspect of the area before making this life changing decision.

Take time and consideration when looking for franchisors in your quest to self-employment and independence although it may be tedious at times finding the right franchise will be a once in a life time opportunity when you reach it.
